Khalil Gibran KhalilHe was born on January 6, 1883, in Beirut ( sultanate-Osmania). Khalil Gibran is author of the world-famous book “The Prophet” which was translated in more than 100 languages. He was a writer, poet, philosopher and visual artist. He himself rejected the title of philosopher. He died on April 10, 1931, at the age of 48 years. The cause of death was reported to be cirrhosis of the liver with incipient tuberculosis in one of his lungs (T.B and liver disease)Usually, a person is afraid of defeat and people run away from the loser but Khalil Gibran sees it from a new angle. He said that only defeat can bring you closer to yourself, and through the defeat, you will find your success. It is defeat that forces you to know yourself, it makes you realize your faults and he had written a most beautiful poem on defeat “ Defeat My Defeat””Defeat, My DefeatDefeat, my Defeat, my solitude and my aloofnessYou are dearer to me than a thousand triumphs,And sweeter to my heart than all world-glory”Explanation: My solitude, my loneliness, you are dearer to me than thousands of victories and sweeter to me than all the splendour of the world. Means defeat can only do all the deeds which others can not, defeat leaves us alone and that’s good because when we got to defeat that time we meditate, we think why it happens and try to understand the things“Defeat, my Defeat, my self-knowledge and my defianceThrough you, I know that I am yet young and swift of footAnd not to be trapped by withering laurels”(laurel is kind of plant, and its speciality is that it soon becomes green and soon dies, it is used for making a crown of conquerors. And it is also considered a symbol of victory)Explanation: defeat, my defeat, my growth and refusal through you and I get know that I am still a young and nimble man. I do not have to be captive by the hands of minor victory. “And in you, I have found aloneness,And the joy of being shunned and scorned”Explanation: and I have got loneliness from you, and I have enjoyed loneliness and contempt by being away from people. That means due to defeat, I am closer to myself and certainly, people never get together around the defeated person and never praise him. Therefore, the poet wants to says that he had learned enjoying hatred of people by defeat.“Defeat, my Defeat, my shining sword, and shield,In your eyes I have read, that to be enthroned is to be enslaved,And to understand is to be level down”Explanation: defeat, my defeat, my sparkling sword and my shield in your eyes I have read that coronation means to become slave, and understanding means you are losing your standard. When you become conquest, then all people become your fans and love you and you have to do work for them for impressing them mean you have become slaves“And to be grasped is but to reach one’s fullnessAnd like a ripe fruit to fall and be consumed”Explanation: and being in control means that you are at peak and have achieved perfection, and that means you are a ripped fruit, the ripped fruit falls off and people eat it.Certainly, people travel toward the peek and when they reached and there is no way to go up furthermore except to come down. Then comes down from the rise to the fall.“Defeat, my defeat, my bold companionYou shall hear my songs and my cries and my silencesAnd none but you shall speak to me for the beating of wings”Explanation: my defeat my brave friend, my brave fellow only you will hear my songs and will hear me cryings, and my silences and no one will talk about my escape except you. The poet wants to say that when he got defeat when he is defeated, only his defeat is with him to hear the voice of his heart and it is his secret that is aware of all his thoughts and feelings. “And urging of seasAnd of mountains that burn in the night And you alone shall climb my steep and rocky soul”Explanation: alone defeat is aware of the problems he faces and it is aware of his all dangers. And defeat can seep into its slopes and rocky paths,Certainly, when we become conquests then we look toward to people and receive gifts from them, and when we get defeat we seep into ourselves and try to understand ourselves. And we search faults in ourselves and this is very hard to find its own mistakes that seep in own collars and himself find its faults. And it is not difficult to find others fault, that’s why the poet said that “you alone shall climb my steep and rocky soul” so defeat alone enables you to know within yourself.“Defeat, my defeat my deathless courageYou and I shall laugh together with the storm”Explanation: defeat, my defeat my immortal strength, my endless power only you and I will together laugh and smile, in other words, in this difficult time only the poet and defeat will support each other and everyone else will leave them.“And together we shall dig graves for all that die in usAnd we shall stand in the sun with a willAnd we shall be dangerous”Explanation: and together we will dig graves for those who die in ourselves, and we will stand under the open sky with a great intention. And we will be dangerous only getting defeat we will know what we are we get know ourselves who is with us from the heart and who is with us in prosperity.Those who are with us in prosperity and through defeat we get to know the reality of that person, his true face comes before us. After getting defeat we will stand with a new intention of hard-working and be prepared to face a difficult time and we will be more strong and dangerous.
